Meet Dr. Sheela Modin

Sheela Modin, MD

My name is Sheela Modin and I am one of the two full time Radiation Oncologists working at the Holy Cross Hospital Radiation Treatment Center in Silver Spring MD. I did my B.Sc in Psychology and Mathematics at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, and my M.A. in Biopsychology at the University of British Columbia in beautiful Vancouver, BC. I then obtained my MD degree and as well did an Internal Medicine internship at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. I did my residency in Radiation Oncology from Georgetown University, Washington, DC. At Georgetown, I had the opportunity to obtain comprehensive training in most aspects of Radiation Oncology including brachytherapy. I did a fellowship at Georgetown University focusing on 3-D conformal treatment of the pancreas (which was a new technical development at that time).

I have been at the Silver Spring clinic for 13 years and it has been pleasure to work here. This clinic boasts state-of-the-art technology, such as SRS/SBRT, brachytherapy, 4-D CT capability as well as extremely experienced, talented and compassionate staff. While I treat patients with a variety of cancers, my areas of specialty include breast and gynecologic tumors as well as stereotactic treatment of non-cranial sites, such as lung, spine, and adrenal/liver lesions. One aspect of my practice that I pride myself on is my interest and participation in clinical trials. I am either the PI or co-PI on several trials (through Holy Cross Hospital) and am a strong advocate for placing patients on trials.

I chose oncology as a field of specialty, not only for its intellectual challenges but mostly because I love working with oncology patients. Each day, I am impressed and humbled by the courage and strength that our patients demonstrate and am honored to be involved in their care.
